The Blue Heron Home Remodel
This project should just be considered new construction rather than a remodel. The house was originally built in the 50's and it was a wreck inside. The project was a complete exterior and interior make over. We did not move one single exterior wall or change the roof line. An old shed on the side of the house was incorporated into the footprint for the new kitchen. We replaced and resized all of the windows, added French doors, a new custom front door, new roof, gutters, new custom carriage house garage door and all new siding and cultured stone accents. A new concrete patio was poured, a new custom deck was built and the property was enclosed in the back by a new black aluminum fence. Every interior surface from the insulation to the new light fixtures was replaced. We even had to add a new water main!
The interior floor plan changed significantly. The old layout was a tiny kitchen off the garage with a dining room & TV room on the main level. The "basement" was cold, wet and very dark!! The upstairs had 4 bedrooms and a hall bathroom that opened to the front door. The house is a little over 3600 sq. ft and it was a mess.
The new layout is open, light filled and beautiful. The house looks like a charming Hamptons cottage from the outside, but inside it lives much larger. We pushed the kitchen into the new "shed" area and made a great room concept on the main floor. The basement was turned into a totally new area. A full master suite/home theatre room was added (the room was wired for home theatre if the new owners did not need the room as a bedroom), a powder room and a large gathering room was configured with a heated stone floor, 3 sets of French doors to the new back patio overlooking the Blue Heron Canal, and a full wet bar was added with an ice maker, u/c refer, dishwasher drawer, microwave & stainless steel sink. The upper floor now has a master suite and 2 bedrooms that share a jack-n-jill bathroom. A laundry room was added on the upper floor at the end of the hallway for convenience and a study alcove was added in the hallway also.
This project features Milgard & Marvin windows, Alpine Woodworks custom cabinetry, KitchenAid Professional series Stainless Steel Appliances, Kohler & Toto plumbing fixtures, Caesarstone and Granite surfaces from Infinity Stone & Intrepid Stoneworks, American Cherry hardwood floors, custom designed hearths & staircase, solid core interior doors and custom front door from Edelen Windows & Doors, cabinet hardware from Chown & Restoration hardware.
